RetroBunny asked:
What are your suggestions about teen women acquiring tattoos?
If a woman is sixteen, and can legally get a tattoo, ought to a mother or father stage in?
What do you believe of mother and father who help tattoos?
By the way, this is a totally impersonal question.
I am a late teenager, and don't have any kids.
I am just curious.
Oh, and it is legal in Canada to get a tattoo at sixteen.

I don’t have a problem with tattoos. I have several. My main concern, if I were the parent of a teenage girl, would be that she would get something silly that she won’t want in 20 years. I don’t necessarily think the parent should step in and stop her, but he should definitely discuss the design she wants and make sure the teen has thought carefully about it.
When they become age 18 and can legally be considered an adult, that’s when I would consider letting a child get a tattoo. At age 16, they are still too young, too indecisive, and their tastes are changing constantly. I don’t think 16 year olds should be allowed to get tattoos. And more states are setting the laws to make tattooing minors illegal.
i got my first tattoo at 16
let them express themselves
because if you dont
youll just push them away
like my dad did.
i love tattoos though
everyones opinion is different.
If I am ever a parent, I absolutely will not let my child get tattooed under the age of 18.
And this is coming from someone with 5 tattoos and more to come.
I know that what I wanted when I was 16 is definitely not something I’d want now. I’ve just changed so much since then and it’s just stuff that I am glad is not on my body. I don’t think 16 is old enough to have a tattoo even if it is legal. In some cases, I don’t even think 18 year olds are responsible enough for a tattoo but you can’t do anything to stop them.
Depends on what they want. If it’s something tasteful and you know they’ll appreciate years later, then I think it’s fine. If they want a giant band logo of whatever boy band is popular right now emblazoned across their stomach, I’d nix it.
I don’t like tattoos at all and think they are very unattractive – especially on females. They carry the stigma of the person who wears them as being trampy, hence their nickname “tramp stamps.” I would never let an underage person get a tattoo because they are too young to make that kind of decision that could affect them for the rest of their life. A 15 or 16 year old might think it’s “trendy” to get a tattoo, but it will send the wrong message and perception to the people around her.
I think if she wanted on bad enough she would get it anyways, and I would prefer her to get it done professionally. I’m 23. I remember being a teen and wanting a tattoo. I remember my friends wanting tattoos. I remember the girl down the street ‘doing them herself’. I remember her eventually doing others. I remember her getting ink poisioning. I also remember all the people wanting them then and getting them. I know every single person got theres eventually. I know some of us went crazy with them though. I just had a daughter last month. We’ve (my husband and I) have already disscided that there is no discussion on her being allowed to get one before she’s 15, no matter what. After that, we figure it’s her decision and if she wants one bad enough she’ll get it regardless. Just no names or trendy things or anything.
It doesn’t bother me.
I think everyone should have a choice as to whether or not they like tattoos, and then from there whether or not THEY would like to have one.
I’ve just recently decided I wanted to get one..
No, tattoos are bad for people, and have no purpose. however, henna tattoos are great for short term things, or long term and u just need to keep reapplying it.
I don’t think teens should get tattoos. When I was 16 I had all these tattoo ideas in my head of tattoos I wanted to get. I am so glad that I didn’t because I would regret them all now. I don’t think teenagers are mature enough to know the consequences and that their ideas on tattoos will change. I got my first tattoo at 18. I am really glad I waited.
my thoughts of teen girls gettin a tat is hot,
you can legally get a tattoo but with parents consent they have to be there to let u get it ,parents who support it are cool parents like my parents . i was 17 when i got my first tattoo it was a cross , then i got another one at 17 praying hands then when i was 18 i got like 6 more they are cool with it but you have to watch out there addicting lol i might go try to get one tommarrow lol
if you are eighTEEN, fine. 16 is WAY too young to get inked. they WILL regret getting a tattoo at that early age. i think that even 18 is a bit young, since at 25, your taste is VASTLY different than a 18 year old’s. i got mine at 23, and i know that at 16 or 18, i would have gotten something VERY stupid. even a memorial tattoo isn’t wise at 16. if it’s to honor someone who has died, then it can wait a few years. it’s not going to change the person’s status, is it?
when i have kids, and if later on in life they want a tattoo, then they can wait until they are legal, have a job, and can pay for it themselves. they need to think long and hard about their design choice.
The legalities differ from state to state. Here in the great state of Calfornia it is a felony to tattoo a minor and in some states it can be considered child abuse/endangerment. So, if someone happens to offer you a tattoo when you are under 18 and doesn’t seem concerned about your age it’s probably a bad idea. In other states, like Nevada for instance, tattooing at the age of 16 is legal with parental consent.
I would consider the parent that supports tattooing their minor child a very irresponsible individual, but that’s just me.
you can’t legally get a tattoo at a parlor for being 16.
you need to have parent consent.
i got my first tattoo at 15, with parent consent.
i have 3, and will have 4 on this friday. (2 days)
my mom has signed and will sign all of them.
my mom is extremely open minded about almost everything.
she has let me got all the tattoo’s i want, as long as she knows i wouldn’t regret it, and i haven’t, and never will.
she likes all of my tattoos, if she doesn’t like what i pick out she will say “i don’t like that one.” and sooner or later i agree, it’s always good to have a little input on tattoo’s, so you can REALLY decide whether you want it or not.
they usually do know best!
i have two…got one at 16, one at 19. my mom sat there with me for both. it’s not the hottest idea and i don’t know if i’d let my kid do it that young (well 16). i think its better to wait and think more about it because you still change alot in your late teens. sometimes i wish i would’ve waited, but i don’t regret it either.
don’t get a tattoo they are so trashy..
if your under 16 and you want a tattoo just get one of your parents to go in with you, and i think its fine if a girl is wanting a tattoo, im 16 and i just got my first tattoo the other month, just think about what you should get as it has to be with you for the rest of your life
i know many of my friends have tattoos and will probably regret them because they dont really mean anything maybe to them and all but yeah and as for myself Ive been wanting my tattoo for 3 years now
so its really like a choice i mean parents should let there girls think about it if they still want it 2 or three years from now they should let them get it
People should be 18, before then they are too young.
doesn’t make much difference to me if there 16 or 18 when they get the tattoo . as long as there not any younger than that. and to be honest i have rarely seen any on girls at the beach or school that i didn’t like or though weren’t well placed and think idea of geting a tattoo at this age is now a permanent thing for girls and women in general and alot of guys have them as well .so just no tattoos before there 16 and there fine with me.
if its legal.. then i dont see the problem
the average 16 year old is too immature to make a decision for something they supposedly want on their body forever. i think a parent should step in to let them know what theyre doing.
