phoenixchickNY asked:

My mom appears to think that men with tattoos are poor men, how can I make her understand that not each and every guy with tattoos are poor. Particularly if I discover males with tattoos scorching.

September 6, 2009

kristie c @ 7:34 am #

Tell her not to judge you by the color of your skin. Plus it’s just art.

I think men with tattoos are hot, but your mom isn’t all wrong for thinking that way, because some men with tattoos are bad.

Plus some men with tattoos might have Hep C, it’s a possibility lol.

fowler_tina94 @ 1:31 am #

its not possible unless u lie and say that they are airbrushed

getting inked certainly isnt a way of putting out to the world that your a nice guy or a good guy…there is usually some sort of ‘badness’ associated with…and if i had a daughter she wouldnt be dating anyone with tattoos

September 10, 2009

talk your dad into gettin a tattoo then you can be like…you married a dude with a tattoo mom

September 11, 2009

Brooke W @ 10:14 pm #

Go get a tattoo and show her that people with tats can be good people. Or meet a guy that has one ask him not to let her know he has one and when your mom likes him show her the tattoo..

September 22, 2009

Leslie @ 4:08 am #

by getting one. if your not bad then you with tattoos must not be bad. also would you think he was hot if he didnt have a tattoo???

September 25, 2009

ilovejoshuaa @ 1:46 am #

Try explaining to her that men and women in hundreds of different cultures throughout history have used tattoos as a way of expressing themselves, or symbolizing something.

It’s a form of artwork, but instead of a canvas or a piece of paper, the person is using their body

September 26, 2009

ashlovesmotocross @ 6:18 pm #

say, “the tatoos express who I am.” “And you have to learn to accept that.”

September 27, 2009

mel_kw2004 @ 7:36 pm #

gIRL,
THERE IS NO WAY
THATS JUST THEIR BELIEF (some parent fad)
SAY, ITS JUST A WAY OF EXPRESSING THEMSELVES (even though she’ll think its bullshit)

September 29, 2009

Witchblade_1 @ 2:54 pm #

Try going at it from a historical point of view. Here is a good place to start.

September 30, 2009

sentrynox @ 4:48 am #

Because they may not be bad, but are living in a society that like such fashion… Just tell your mother that it is like fashion and men like to do social statements this way!
It is just a matter of expression, nothing special there…
But my advice: better find one with a sweet tattoo… or she may not be convinced…

Just introduce her to them but make sure they are covered up and then when she gets to know them and likes them then have them reveal the Tattoos and you can tell her “See you liked him before you knew he had Tattoos, he’s the same guy”…. My family is the same way…. Until I got 6 of my own and now they just deal with me and my choices!!!!

Well..its pretty hard to explain to your mom that tatoos arent bad. You know why?
CUZ THEY ARE!!!
WHy would you want to permanently defile your body and cause yourself pain?? So that you can look kool?
You should try opening your bible sometime, then maybe you would understand why tatoos are bad.
You dissapoint me….

*ms.breeze16* @ 7:05 pm #

she is just trying to protect you. tatoos bring so many bad stuff to your life. you most usually wont have the same chance of getting a proffesion (proffesion not job).people will think bad about you, and you can even be more suspicous to cops. i do not think even if you get a tatoo that says mom you still wont convince her.

Aliz-USA @ 3:29 pm #

Sorry but you won’t be able to change her mind. You might if he has a small one on his arm, but if he is covered with them there is no way you are going to change her mind.

leeqwert @ 7:35 pm #

If he really loves you, he’ll get it removed.

If you want to be in a relationship with a guy with tattoos, have her meet him. If he truly is a nice guy it will show in his personality and she will learn that her assumptions are wrong. Tell her that it is peoples actions that make them bad or good…it has nothing to do with outward appearance. I’ve had teachers and doctors that have tattoos.

Its defining personality. What if the guy drove a jacked up truck that had a big Confederate flag plastered on the back along with redneck for life slapped on underneath the flag? Does that make him a dumb alcoholic ****** hick? How about a pretty boy that drives a beamer and wears nerdy sweaters even when it 90 degrees outside, does that make him a richy snob? Or better yet, what if a dude liked you and the guys mom told him, that you were prissy and stuck up, I’m sure you would feel like crap. These are a few things you could mention to your mom, and hopefully she can understand your point of view. Tattoos go back in history so far, that it’s hard to even argue the harm in them. Tattoos are like a visual saying or thought you strongly believe in, that’s marked permanently on your body as a sign of commitment and belief in whoever or whatever it is you live by.

Some are done in prisons. Can you tell the differences? You have time and no reason to buck your mother. She might believe the book of Deuteronomy that speaks against it. Tats are lifelong. Think what a butterfly looks like on an aged person. It possibly would look like a messy child’s coloring item. Think of the many with aged.

You know your mom bettter than all of us if you are above 18 she cant do anything

October 17, 2009

bubbles @ 3:04 pm #

they may seem pretty, they are bad to the extent that if your mom, dad or someone you love dearly is dying and need blood, and you are the only matching one around at that time, you cant give blood because the ink as in your skin and bloodstreams.

f_0_c_k_3_r @ 11:20 pm #

Well you can’t always change a parents mind, but you can always go for the “hes only expressing himself through art”

October 23, 2009

jkc @ 5:23 am #

Wow. Some of you really need to read what she actually asked…
Here’s the thing. She has an opinion that most likely she will not change. I would suggest she meet your boyfriends first and get a chance to know them before finding out they have tattoos. It’s sad that someone is labeled as “bad” just because they have tattoos. There are ALOT of bad people out there who do not have tattoos. That seems to get overlooked.
If you date only people to please your mom, you will drive yourself nuts. I’m 39. I got my first tattoo at 38. My mom freaked out when she found out because she has a very old school thinking about tattoos. She has no idea what I have had done sense, and frankly, there is no reason for her to know – it will only upset her. I’m an adult and can make my own decisions and I don’t need her approval. If you are looking for her approval as far as who you are dating, you may be in a tough spot.
Judging because of tattoos is no different then judging by skin color, how much money you make, etc. It has nothing to do with what kind of person you are. That comes from the inside….

KIMBERLY D @ 6:18 am #

Just remind her that Johnny Depp has tattoos and he is a nice guy and REALLY hot. ;-)

Hi… what you have to do is date the guy make him hid his tattoos from your mom…. she will begin to like him as he is good to you ( we hope) keep this up as long as possible and then let one be visible …. hopefully she will see past the tattoo now..
BTW my mom didnt like tattoos either… even though granddad had them…
She didnt mind my nephews as it was a memorial to his other grandmas….
so…. basically ……. mom has to see beyond the negative stereo type.

October 26, 2009

You can’t just break the news to her and she will hopefully one day get over it.

October 30, 2009

amc_930 @ 12:14 am #

tell her tattoos are a work of art and tattoos have meanings to the ppl that get them tell her not everyone gets them just to look different and that having a tattoo doesn’t make you a bad person maybe it would help if you said some ppl get the tattoos to deal with something going on in their lives

cara @ 2:21 pm #

its another way for people to express themselves and their feelings.

If you have a certain guy in mind, just introduce him to your mom. If he’s someone you don’t think you can introduce to your mother with OR without tats, it’s probably not worth making a fuss over him anyway (moms are pretty good judges of character). If you’re in your late teens, you should be able to befriend whoever you want… don’t sweat the small stuff.
